BETABAND - THE THREE E.P.'S
ASTRALWERKS

The Beta Band have developed a rather catchy blend of trip hop and stoner indie rock.  Comparisons to Beck are undeniable--the Beta Band have the same laid-back sound and the impulse to pull in sounds from a variety of genres.  But the Beta Band throw more experimental weirdness into their mix than Beck.  The aptly titled Three E.P.'s combines three mini-albums that hadn't previously been released in the U.S.  This CD is a great collection that contains soon-to-be indie-rock classics like "Dry the Rain"--a song where the Beta Band shift from the sounds of Meddle-era Floyd, to trumpets and bongos, to a "Hey Jude-ish" end-jam, without batting a musical eye lash!  Three E.P.'s is a perfect introduction to one of the more innovative bands on the indie-rock scene.

PIGEONHOLE: Musical Ritalin that would even make the blokes from Pink Floyd proud.
CAVEATS: Sometimes, the Beta Band trip a little hard and fall completely off the experimental deep end, which is great fun for adventurous souls but torture for traditionalists.
