KINGSBURY MANX
LET YOU DOWN
OVERCOAT
Despite the somewhat discouraging title, Kingsbury
Manx's second album is no let down--this album is a great collection of
dreamy indie-rock. Songs like "Courtyard Waltz," "Simplify," "Rustic
Stairs," and the title track are slow-moving walls of sound dripping with
hypnotizing guitar effects and mellow vocals. These vocals are also
strangely "British" for a bunch of guys living in North Carolina!
In many ways, Let You Down is reminiscent of Meddle-era Pink
Floyd (e.g., "A Pillow of Winds," "Fearless"). Although "Et Tu, Kitte"
and "Arun" have a country-folk vibe, Kingsbury Manx don't stray too far
from the dreamy soundscapes. As a result, the album is more
thematically consistent than the band's debut. If you like Let
You Down, check out the bands excellent "Drift Off" single on Sit 'N
Spin Records. This single and Let You Down are great signs
of what's to come.
PIGEONHOLE: Dreamy indie-rock lullabies that make
for perfect bedtime listening.
CAVEATS: Let You Down has the hypnotic
power to lull the non-caffeinated listener into sleep.
