HOME OF THE STEWWelcomeWelcome to Sowbug Stew, a webzine dedicated to unearthing the best in fringe rock. It's not that we have anything against mainstream rock and roll. There's plenty of good mainstream rock out there and plenty of (read: too many) publications covering it. But there's so much great music beyond the mainstream--music that's lurking in the fringes. Our goal is to help you find some of it. Occasionally, we'll cover some of the lesser-known recordings of mainstream artists that we feel are worth another look. You won't, however, find any albums here that have hit the U.S. Top 40 (unless we get to them before the Top 40 does). With so much negativity in music review these days, we've also chosen to cover
only those new albums and reissues that we feel are worth your hard-earned
money. Not every album listed in Sowbug Stew is for everybody.
We try to describe each recording with enough detail to give you a feel
for the sound. We also try to mention any qualities that might alienate
or outright repulse certain listeners. When possible, we supply links
to sites where you can sample some of the songs from these albums.
So, listen and decide for yourself.
